(6) The word "secondhand" shall mean any material or article
of which prior use has been made.
£The word "shoddy" shall mean any material which has been
spun into yarn, knit or woven into fabric, and subsequently cut up,
torn up, broken up, or ground up. ]
(7) The word "shoddy" shall mean garnetted or shredded clippings
when made in whole or in part from secondhand rags, clothing
fabrics, or other materials.
(8) The word "person" as used herein, shall include persons,
corporations, copartnerships and associations.
(9) Words used in the singular number shall include the plural;
and the plural, the singular.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1962.

CHAPTER 97
(House Bill 109)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 88 of
Article 65 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Militia", sub-title "Re-employment of Persons in Military
Service", to extend the duration of certain rights and status of
servicemen in pension and retirement systems under the laws of
the State, Baltimore City or any political sub-division.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 88 of Article 65 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Militia, sub-title "Re-employment of Persons in
Military Service", be and is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
88.
The rights and status of any person inducted into the land or naval
forces of the United States within the period beginning September 1,
1940, and ending December 31, 1945, or within the period beginning
June 1, 1950, and ending June 1, [1959] 1963, for training and
service pursuant to the act of Congress known as the Selective Train-
ing and Service Act of 1940, or any subsequent acts of a similar
nature, and any member of any reserve component of the land or
naval forces of the United States on active duty or service within said
period or ordered or assigned to active duty or service within said
