Any such stock distribution, for the purpose of this sub-title, shall
be regarded as a transaction under Section 280 (a) of this sub-title.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1962.

CHAPTER 96
(House Bill 103)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 65 (a)
of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Health", subtitle "Manufacture and/or Sale of Mattresses,
Etc. ", defining the word "shoddy" as used in the manufacture
and/or sale of mattresses, under the health laws of the State.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 65 (a) of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Health", subtitle "Manufacture and/or Sale
of Mattresses, Etc. ", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

65.
(a)

(1) The word "mattress" shall mean any quilted pad, mattress,
mattress pad, mattress protector, bunk, quilt or box spring, stuffed
or filled with excelsior, straw, hay, grass, corn husks, moss, fibre,
cotton, wool, hair, jute, kapok or other soft material to be used
on a couch or other bed for sleeping or reclining purposes.

(2) The words "pillow, " "bolster, " "cushion" or "feather bed"
shall mean any bag, case or covering made of cotton, leather or
other textile material, and stuffed or filled with excelsior, straw,
hay, grass, corn husks, moss, fibre, cotton, wool, hair, jute, feathers,
feather down, kapok or other soft material, to be used on a bed,
hammock, chair, couch, divan, sofa, lounge or other article of up-
holstered furniture for sleeping, reclining or resting purposes.

(3) The words "upholstered furniture" shall mean any article of
furniture stuffed or filled with excelsior, straw, hay, grass, corn
husks, tow, moss, fibre, cotton, wool, hair, jute, feathers, feather
down, kapok or other soft material to be used for sitting, resting or
reclining purposes.

(4) The word "comfortable" shall mean any cover, quilt or quilted
article made of cotton, or other textile material, and stuffed or filled
with fibre, cotton, wool, hair, jute, feathers, feather down, kapok
or other soft material.

(5) The word "new, " as used in this section, shall mean any ma-
terial or article which has not been previously manufactured or
used for any purpose.
