Annapolis, Md., May 31, 1962.
The Senate met at 10: 30 o'clock A. M.

Prayer was offered by Rev. James Madison of Annapolis, Maryland.
Present at roll call were the following Senators:

President, Barrick, Bertorelli, Buffington, Dean, Dorf, Dorsey, Gonder, Hall,
Hepbron, Hughes, James, Johnson, Jones, Mach, Malkus, Nock, North, Parran, Phipps,
Phoebus, Pine, Schweinhault, See, Shipley, Snyder, Weant and Wheatley. Total—28

The Journal of May 30, 1962 was read and approved.

INTRODUCTION OF RESOLUTION

Senate Resolution No. 9—By Senator North:

Senate Resolution sending heartiest congratulations to Lieutenant-
Commander Malcolm Scott Carpenter.

The members of the Senate of Maryland, assembled in the City of
Annapolis in Special Session, send their heartiest congratulations
and highest commendation to Lieutenant-Commander Malcolm Scott
Carpenter.

The people of the State of Maryland, along with their fellow
citizens throughout the country and men of good will throughout
the world send their hope and prayers with Lieutenant-Commander
Malcolm Scott Carpenter on the occasion of his space flight.

We rejoice in his safe return and are grateful for the contributions
that he and the National Space Administration have made to this
country and to the world; now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate of Maryland, That the heartiest thanks and
sincere congratulations of this Body be expressed to Lieutenant-
Commander Malcolm Scott Carpenter and to the National Space
Administration upon the successful completion of the recent space
flight; and be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate be instructed to send
copies of this resolution to Lieutenant-Commander Malcolm Scott
Carpenter and to the National Space Administration.
