C H A P. XLIX.

1795.

A Supplement to an act, entitled, An act for the more effectual
prefervation of the breed of wild deer.

Paffed De-
cember 24.

Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That from and after
the firft day of May next, it fhall not be lawful for any perfon or perfons
whatfoever to kill, or otherwife deftroy, any wild deer in Washington or
Allegany county, except in the months of Auguft, September, October, No-
vember and December, yearly, under the penalty of five pounds current money
for every offence.

II. And be it enacted, That any perfon or perfons in whofe hands or cuftody
any deer's flefh, except dried venifon, fhall be found, that fhall not appear to
have been killed agreeably to the provifions of this act, fhall be deemed, taken
and adjudged, the killer or deftroyer of fuch deer, and liable to the penalty
aforefaid, unlefs fuch perfon or perfons fhall make it appear who it was that
killed the fame, or from whom fuch perfon thereof poffeffed received the fame,
or that the fame was killed agreeably to the provifions of this act.

An ACT to empower Charles Hodfon to collect the balances due
him as fheriff and collector of Dorchefter county.

WHEREAS it is reprefented to this general affembly, by the petition of
Charles Hodfon, late fheriff and collector of Dorchefter county, that
he was appointed collector of the county rates in faid county for the
years feventeen hundred and ninety-two, feventeen hundred and ninety-three, and
feventeen hundred and ninety-four, and that he was the fheriff of faid county
for the years aforefaid, and in virtue of faid office of fheriff a number of officers
fees was alfo put into his hands for collection, and that, owing to a variety of
circumftances, he has been unable to complete his faid collections within the
time prefcribed by the act of affembly in fuch cafes made and provided, and the
faid Charles Hodfon hath prayed he may be empowered to collect all fuch
balances due him as aforefaid in the fame manner as he might have done during
the time of his commiffion and appointment aforefaid; and this general affembly
being willing to grant him fome indulgence; therefore,

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the faid Charles
Hodfon be and he is hereby authorifed and empowered to take, demand, col-
led and receive, all and every fum or fums of money, quantity or quantities of
tobacco, county rates and officers fees, due him as fheriff and collector aforefaid
for the year feventeen hundred and ninety-four, in the fame manner as he might
have done were his feveral offices unexpired; and the laid Charles Hodfon fhall be
allowed until the eighteenth day of October next to complete the collection of the
balances aforefaid, and fhall be allowed the fame commiffion upon the faid col-
lections that he would have been entitled to had his feveral offices been unex-
pired.

III. Provided always, and be it enacted, That the faid Charles Hodfon,
or fome perfon or perfons authorifed by him, fhall, at leaft ten days before, the
execution or diftrefs of property for the balances aforefaid, deliver to the perfon
charged, or leave at his or her place of abode, a proved account, ftating the
taxes and the amount of fees, or fuch part thereof as may be claimed as due, to-
gether with all payments that may have been in any manner made by fuch per-
fon, and fhall give, at leaft. five days notice, by advertifement at the moft public
places in the neighbourhood, of the time and place of fale in cafe of fuch exe-
cution or diftrefs; and provided alfo, that all the books of the faid Charles Hod-
fon, and his deputies, in which his accounts as fheriff and collector are ftated
and kept, fhall be depofited in the hands of fome perfon in the county town of
the county aforefaid, to be infpected and examined by any perfon or perfons who
fhall apply for the fame, in order to ascertain any payments that may have been
made upon bis or their account.
