county, for one hundred and twenty fhares, under the fuperintendence of Mef-

Charles county, for one hundred and twenty fhares, under the fuperintendence of
Meffieurs Michael Jenifer Stone, John Campbell and Daniel Jenifer; at Upper-
Marlborough, in Prince-George's county, for one hundred and twenty fhares,
under the fuperintendence of Meffieurs David Crauford, Benjamin Brookes and
Edward Nichols; at Prince-Frederick-town, in Calvert county, for one hundred
and twenty fhares, under the fuperintendence of Meffieurs John Roufby Plater,
Walter Mackall and Richard Grahame; at the City of Annapolis, in Anne-
Arundel county, for one hundred and twenty fhares, under the fuperintendence
of Meffieurs John Muir, James Mackubin and Lewis Neth; at George-town,
in Montgomery county, for one hundred and twenty fhares, under the fuperin-
tendence of Meffieurs Benjamin Stoddert, William Deakins, junior, and James
Maccubbin Lingan; at Frederick-town, in Frederick county, for one hundred
and twenty fhares, under the fuperintendence of Meffieurs Philip Thomas,
George Murdock and William Murdock Beall; at Elizabeth-town, in Wafhing-
ton county, for one hundred and twenty fhares, under the fuperintendence of
Meffieurs Nathaniel Rochefter, William Lee and Rezin Davis; at the town of
Cumberland, in Allegany county, for one hundred and twenty fhares, under the
fuperintendence of Meffieurs David Lynn, John Johnfon and Alpheus Beall;
and a majority of the faid commiffioners, at the places above mentioned refpec-
tively, fhall be fufficient to perform the duties of their appointment, and they
fhall keep the fubfcription open for at leaft the term of three days, and if not
completed at the expiration of that term, then they fhall keep the fame open for
three weeks thereafter, unlefs fooner completed, and no longer, but if the fub-
fcription fhall be filled at any time before the expiration of the faid term of three
days, then, and immediately after the fame fhall be fo filled, no perfon, co-part-
nerfhip or body politic, fhall, during the remainder of the term of three days
aforefaid, be permitted to fubfcribe for more than two fliares.

II. And be it enacted, That all fubfcriptions, and the fhares obtained in con-
fequence thereof, fhall be deemed and held to be the right and property of and
for the fole and exclufive ufe and benefit of the perfons, co-partnerfhips or
bodies politic, refpectively fubfcribing, or in whofe behalf the fubfcriptions te-
fpectively fhall be declared to be made at the time of making the fame, and all
bargains, contracts, promifes, agreements and engagements, in any wife con-
travening this provifion, fhall be void, and the perfons, co-partnerfhips or bodies
politic, refpectively fo fubfcribing, or for whofe ufe the fubfcriptions fhall be de-
clared to be made as aforefaid, fhall have, enjoy and receive, the fhare and fhares
refpectively in conference thereof obtained, and all the intereft and emoluments
thence arifing, any fuch bargains, contracts, promifes, agreements or engage-
ments, to the contrary thereof in any wife notwithstanding; provided however,
