C H A P.

LIV.

other property, not producing an yearly intereft, be fold within two years after
the fame fhall be vefted in the corporation, and the amount thereof converted in-
to bank ftock of the United States bank, or any other bank, or debt of the
United States, or any individual ftate, at the difcretion of the faid corporation ;
and provided alfo, that the corporation fhall hold no real eftate, except fo much
as fhall be deemed neceffary for the afylum hereafter mentioned, for a longer fpace
than two years, the land for faid afylum not to exceed ten acres.

Corporation

III. Be it further enacted, That the faid corporation may, as foon as the ftate
of the funds will admit thereof, build, or direct to be built, an afylum, and
therein receive, accommodate and educate, a certain number of poor children,
under fuch government, adminiftration and regulations, as they may think pro-
per, referving neverthelefs a proportion of their funds for the relief of the poor
as aforefaid.

And caufe
boxes to be
fixed up, &c.

IV. Be it further enacted, That the faid corporation may caufe to be fixed
up, at public places within the faid town, boxes for the reception of donations
from the charitable citizen.

Clergymen to
fignity in
writing, &c.

V. Be it further enacted, That every clergyman, minifter or prieft, confent-
ing to act as a member of the faid corporation, before his admiffion as fuch, and
as a requifite to admiffion, fhall fignify in writing, figned with his name and feal,
his intention to undertake the trufts committed to this corporation, and have the
faid inftrument recorded in the records of Baltimore county court, whereupon
and thenceforth he fhall be held, taken and confidered, a member of this cor-
poration; and the fame formality and regulation fhall be obferved, and is hereby
required, in cafes of vacancy by death, difqualification, or removal from the faid
town.

Three vefted
with powers,
&c.

VI. Be it further enacted, That as foon as three clergymen, minifters or
priefts, refident of Baltimore-town, and belonging to different religious fects
orders or denominations, as aforefaid, fhall have fignified their intention to under-
take the trufts of the faid incorporation, and the fame be recorded as aforefaid,
they are hereby vefted with all its faid powers, faculties and privileges, and direct-
ed and enjoined to inform the public that they are ready to receive donations,
agreeably to the intention of the faid corporation.

The eldeft of
each fect en-
titled, &c.

VII. Be it further enacted, That in cafe a fect, order or denomination, fhall
have two or more churches or houfes of worfhip, with two or more officiating
clergymen, paftors or priefts, the eldeft thereof fhall be held and confidered as
the perfon entitled to be a member of their incorporation, and in cafe of his refu-
fal, death or refignation, the next eldeft; but no fect, order or denomination, fhall
be allowed or entitled to more than one member in the faid corporation.

A majority
declared a
quorum, &c.

VIII. Be it further enacted, That a majority of the members of the faid cor-
poration fhall be and are hereby declared a quorum, and may meet together on
the firft Monday in December, every year, and at fuch other time or times, and
upon fuch public notice given, as may be fixed and agreed upon, for the purpofes
of forming fuch rules and regulations as may be neceffary for anfwering and car-
rying into effect: the charitable purpofes of this act.

Shall caufe an
annual ftate-
ment, &c.

IX. Be it further enacted, That the faid corporation fhall caufe to be laid be-
fore the congregations of the refpective clergymen, minifters, paftors or priefts,
conftituting the faid corporation, and before the fpecial commiffioners of Balti-
more-town, an annual ftatement of the donations received, and the money ex-
pended, with the balance carried on from year to year.

And may be
fued, &c.

X. Be it further enacted, That the faid corporation, and their fucceffors, by
the name aforefaid, fhall be for ever hereafter able and capable in law to fue and
be fued, plead and be impleaded, anfwer and be anfwered unto, defend and be
defended, in all or any courts of juftice, and before all or any judges, officers, or
