moved by the County Commissioners only for cause and after a
hearing.
(4) The members of the Board shall be empowered to employ
such administrative assistance as may be necessary to administer
their office. All vacancies shall be filled by the Governor for any un-
expired terms. The members of the Board shall take oath to faith-
fully perform their duties.
(5) The Charles County Police Force shall consist of a Chief,
a Captain, 2 Sergeants and 7 9 Patrolmen whose salaries shall be as
follows:

Sergeants $ 4,200.00 per year
Patrolmen.............................................................................................$ 4,000.00 per year
All of the members of the Police Force shall be appointed by the
Board of Police Examiners after such mental and physical examina-
tion as the Board may by rule deem sufficient. Provided that all
applicants shall be between the age of 21 and 45 and the Chief of
Police shall be not less than 35 years of age, and have had at least
5 years experience in police work. The Board shall publish notice
of openings for applicants in two newspapers of general circulation
in the county at least two weeks before applications are received.
(6)
(a) The said Chief of Police shall have control and supervision
over other members of said police force and shall assign the mem-
bers thereof, to such duties and to such hours as he may deem neces-
sary, and shall make such rules and regulations for the proper gov-
ernment, discipline, and operation of said police force as he may
deem best to promote the efficiency of said force. A copy of such
rules and regulations shall be furnished to each member of the
police force, and whenever any addition or change is made in such
rules and regulations a copy of such addition or change shall be pro-
vided for each member of the police force, who shall familiarize him-
self therewith.
(b) The Chief of Police shall require each member of the police
force, at such times of the day or night as he may be upon duty,
to preserve the public peace, prevent crime, and protect the rights
of persons and property, to see that all laws relating to the observ-
ance of Sunday and in regard to gambling, intemperance, vagrants
and disorderly persons, are strictly enforced, and to assist the sani-
tary officer of his district to enforce faithfully and strictly all laws,
rules, and orders that now exist or which may hereafter, be passed
or issued for the purpose of maintaining and preserving the public
health, and to arrest all offenders against the laws of the State.
(7)
(a) The Chief of Police may in his discretion, suspend without
pay, remove, dismiss, demote or discharge any member of the police
force for any offense against law or good morals, for neglect of
duty, inefficiency, physical or mental disability, or breach of dis-
cipline. The following offenses shall be considered sufficient to war-
rant suspension, discharge or demotion.
