868                              Laws of Maryland                      [Ch. 596

"Charles County", to be under the new subtitle "Police" and to
follow immediately after Section 254 thereof, providing for the
establishment, regulation, duties, members, qualifications and
salary of the Police Department of Charles County and relating
generally to police in Charles County and to repeal all laws incon-
sistent herewith.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Sections 255 (1) to (14) be and they are hereby added
to Article 9 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Charles County", to be under the new sub-title
"Police", to follow immediately after Section 254 of said Article,
and to read as follows:

255.

(1) Police Department

(a)    The Police Department of Charles County is hereby created
and established. It shall consist of:

(1)    The Charles County Police Force

(2)    The Board of Police Examiners

(3) Such other employees and agencies as shall be authorized by
law.

(b)    The Headquarters of the Police Department shall be located
at La Plata. The Police Department shall use the facilities of the
Court House at La Plata for the establishment of said headquarters
and the Board of County Commissioners shall have the authority
to construct or acquire any other facilities for use as headquarters
or substations for the Police Department.

(2) Board of Police Examiners

The Board of Police Examiners shall be composed of three mem-
bers, all of whom shall have been residents of Charles County for
two years prior to their membership. One of the members shall be
one of the County Commissioners of Charles County appointed by
the Board and the other two members shall be appointed by the Gov-
ernor from a list of names submitted to him by the County Com-
missioners. The Governor may reject all of the names submitted and
in that case the County Commissioners shall submit additional lists
of names. The members of the Board shall serve for six years ex-
cept that member from the Board of County Commissioners shall
serve from the time of his appointment until the following election
for the Board of County Commissioners. Provided that of those
members first appointed by the Governor one shall serve for four
years and one shall serve for six years. The members of the Board
shall be allowed $15 per day plus expenses for each day that they
are engaged in their official duties. The members shall be removable
at any time by the Governor for good cause shown.

(3) The Board of Police Examiners shall appoint an experienced
physician to serve us Medical Examiner. It shall be the duty of the
Medical Examiner to examine all applicants for appointment to or
promotion in the Charles County Police Force as to their physical
and mental qualifications. The Medical Examiner shall be paid on
the basis of his professional services rendered, and shall be re-
