CHAPTER 510
(House Bill 859)

AN ACT to add a new Section to Article 27 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-
title "Sabbath Breaking", said new section to be known as Section
534A, to follow immediately after Section 534 of said Article,
authorizing the exhibition of motion pictures within the corporate
limits of the City of Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland, on
Sunday between the hours of two (2:00) o'clock P. M. and six
(6:00) o'clock P. M. and from eight-thirty (8:30) o'clock P. M.
until twelve (12:00) P. M., repealing all Public General and Public
Local Laws inconsistent herewith to the extent of such inconsist-
ency, and providing for a referendum vote thereon.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new section be and is hereby added to Article 27 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Crimes and Punish-
ments", sub-title "Sabbath Breaking", said new section to be known
as 534A to follow immediately after Section 534 of said Article and
to read as follows:

534A. Nothing contained in Sections 492 and 522 of this Article
shall be construed to prohibit or make unlawful the exhibition of
motion pictures between the hours of two (2:00) o'clock P. M. and
six (6:00) P. M. and between the hours of eight-thirty (8:30) P. M.
and twelve (12:00) o'clock midnight on the first day of the week
commonly known as Sunday within the corporate limits of the City
of Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland, whether the same be
exhibited with or without a charge or admission fee, provided, how-
ever, that such exhibition shall be subject to all provisions of law
relating to licensing and censorship applicable to motion pictures on
week days. The work or employment of any operator, ticket seller
or any other employees or attendants in connection with such exhibi-
tion of motion pictures shall not be unlawful because performed on
Sundays. Provided, however, that nothing in this section shall be
construed to permit the exhibition of motion pictures on Sunday
between the hours of six (6:00) o'clock P. M. and eight-thirty (8:30)
o'clock P. M. Any exhibition of motion pictures on Sunday except
as hereby authorized shall be unlawful and subject to the provisions
and penalties of Sections 492 and 522 of this Article.

Sec 2. And be it further enacted, That all laws or parts of laws,
whether Public General or Public Local Laws, inconsistent with the
provisions of this Act, be and they are hereby repealed to the extent
of such inconsistency.

Sec. 3. Be it further enacted, That Sections 1 and 2 of this Act
and the new Section to be known as 534A, shall not become effective
and in force until they have been submitted for adoption or rejection
to the qualified voters of the City of Cambridge. On the day fixed by
