tion", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:
6.
(i) St. Mary's County.—Trial magistrates of St. Mary's County
shall have civil jurisdiction in all cases hereinabove mentioned in
this section, instituted after June 1, [1953] 1959, and involving
amounts not exceeding [five hundred dollars ($500.00)] One Thou-
sand Dollars ($1,000.00).
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 220 of
Article 19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "St. Mary's County", sub-title "Zoning", as said
Section was enacted by Chapter 685 of the Acts of 1947, relating
to the fees to be charged for building permits and relating gen-
erally to building and building permits in this State.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 220 of Article 19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "St. Mary's County", sub-title "Zon-
ing", as said Section was enacted by Chapter 685 of the Acts of
1947, be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:
220. The County Commissioners are hereby vested with such
duties and powers as may be necessary and advisable for the proper
administration of this sub-title and of such zoning regulations as
they may adopt under the provisions of this sub-title, including the
power to make general exceptions to permit continuance of existing
uses and to permit limited trade or commercial uses of designated
streets or blocks within residence areas and including the power to
summon and compel the attendance of witnesses. Prior to the com-
mencement of construction work on any new buildings or structures
of any kind within the limit of St. Mary's County, the person, firm
or corporation so constructing shall apply to the County Commis-
sioners for a permit [, and shall pay a fee of one dollar ($1.00)
therefor.] . The Commissioners shall issue a permit based on the
following scale: A two dollar ($2.00) fee shall be required for con-
struction costs up to $1,000.00, a fee of five dollars ($5.00) for con-
