title, "Juries," sub-title "Qualification and Selection of Jurors,"
relating generally to jury service by women in Garrett and How-
ard, HOWARD AND WORCESTER Counties.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 8 of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Juries", sub-title "Qualification and Selection
of Jurors," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

8. Women as jurors.

Hereafter no person shall be disqualified for service as a juror of
this State by reason of sex, but the provisions of law relating to the
qualifications of jurors and exemption from jury duty shall in all
cases apply to women as well as men, and the lists from which jurors
are drawn shall include the names of men and women. [The pro-
visions of this section shall not apply to Garrett and Howard coun-
ties.] In Calvert, GARRETT, St. Mary's, Worcester and in Charles
counties jury duty for women shall be optional; and any woman
whose name is drawn for jury duty shall be excused therefrom upon
her request, provided her said request is filed in writing with the
clerk of the circuit court within ten days of the date she is officially
notified of her selection.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

CHAPTER 47
(House Bill 24)

AN ACT to authorize and empower the Board of County Commission-
ers of Wicomico County to convey a fee simple title to two parcels
of property now titled in the name of the County Commissioners
of Wicomico County, to the Wicomico War Memorial Builders, Inc.
for the construction of a war memorial thereon, all as more par-
ticularly described herein.

Whereas, the Wicomico War Memorial, Inc., a non profit corpora-
tion created and existing under and by virtue of the Laws of Mary-
land, some years ago had a drive for funds, said funds to be used for
the building of a Civic Auditorium in Wicomico County as a memorial
to the Veterans of the various wars of the United States; and
