tion), title "Motor Vehicles," sub-title "Operation of Vehicles
Upon Highways," and to add new Section 193 (g) to the said
Article and sub-title of the Code, to follow immediately after
Section 193 (f) thereof, relating to the power of local authorities
to regulate the conduct of pedestrians by means of certain pedes-
trian control signals, to the legal effect of such signals, and relat-
ing generally to pedestrians and their regulation in this State.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 185 (a) of Article 66˝ of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1957 Edition), title "Motor Vehicles," sub-title "Operation of
Vehicles Upon Highways," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, and that new Section 193 (g) be and it
is hereby added to the said Article and sub-title of the Code, to follow
immediately after Section 193 (f) thereof, to read as follows:

185.

(a). The provisions of this Article shall not be deemed to pre-
vent local authorities with respect to streets and highways under
their jurisdiction and within the reasonable exercise of the police
power from—

(1)    Regulating the standing or parking of vehicles;

(2)    Regulating traffic by means of peace officers or traffic
control devices;

(3)    Regulating or prohibiting processions or assemblages on
the highways;

(4)    Designating particular highways as one-way highways and
requiring that all vehicles thereon be moved in one specific direction;

(5)    Regulating the speed and weight of vehicles in public parks;

(6)    Designating any intersection as a stop intersection requir-
ing all vehicles to stop at one or more entrances to such intersections;

(7)    Regulating the movement of pedestrians by means of "Walk,"
"Don't Walk," or "Wait" signals.

193.

(g). Any other provisions of this section to the contrary not-
withstanding, whenever pedestrian control signals exhibiting the
words "Walk," "Don't Walk" or "Wait" have been installed and are
operating, the conduct of pedestrians shall be regulated thereby.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.
