misdemeanor under Section 57 of this Article. Any person or persons
found guilty of a violation of any of the provisions of this section
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall, upon conviction
thereof, be imprisoned not exceeding six months or fined not exceed-
ing five hundred dollars, or both, in the discretion of the court
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

AN ACT to add new Sections 689A to 689C, inclusive, to Article 66C
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Natural
Resources", sub-title "Gas and Oil", sub-heading "In General", to
follow immediately after Section 689 thereof, and to be under the
new sub-heading "Interstate Oil and Gas Compact", to authorize
the State of Maryland to join other States as a member of the
Interstate Compact to Conserve Oil and Gas, and relating gen-
erally thereto.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Sections 689A to 689C, inclusive, be and the same are
hereby added to Article 66C of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Natural Resources", sub-title "Gas and Oil",
sub-heading "In General", to follow immediately after Section 689
thereof, and to be under the new sub-heading "Interstate Oil and
Gas Compact", and to read as follows:
Interstate Oil and Gas Compact
689A. The Governor of the State of Maryland is hereby author-
ized and directed, for and in the name of the State of Maryland, to
join with other states in the Interstate Compact to Conserve Oil and
Gas, which was executed in the city of Dallas, Texas, on the 16th
day of February, 1935, and is now deposited with the Department of
State of the United States, and which has been extended with the
consent of Congress to September 1, 1959.
689B. The Governor of Maryland is further authorized and em-
powered, for and in the name of the State, to execute agreements
for the further extension of the expiration date of the said Inter-
state Oil Compact and to determine if and when it shall be for the
best interest of the State of Maryland to withdraw from said Com-
pact, upon sixty days' notice as provided by its terms. In the event
the Governor shall determine that the state should withdraw from
said Compact, he shall have full power and authority to give neces-
