CHAPTER 376
(Senate Bill 172)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 8-14 of
the Montgomery County Code (1955 Edition, being Article 16 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Montgomery
County", sub-title "Courts", and to repeal and re-enact, with
amendments Section 74 of Article 11 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Frederick County", sub-
title "Circuit Courts", both sections of said articles, titles and sub-
titles of the said codes having been enacted by Chapter 391 of the
Acts of 1953, authorizing the County Council of Montgomery
County and the County Commissioners of Frederick County to pay
any resident judge of the Sixth Judicial Circuit a sum not to
exceed four thousand five hundred dollars per year in addition to
the salary received by each of said judges from the State and from
said counties, and relating generally thereto.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 8-14 of the Montgomery County Code (1955 Edition,
being Article 16 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title
"Montgomery County", sub-title "Courts", be and the same is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

Section 8-14. Salary of Judges.

The [Council of the] County Council is authorized to pay to each
of the Judges of the Circuit Court for the Sixth Judicial Circuit who
resides in the County [and who is not a Judge of the Court of
Appeals] the sum of A SUM NOT TO EXCEED [two thousand
dollars] four thousand five hundred dollars annually in addition to
the salary received by each of such judges from the State. Such pay-
ments are to be made from and after the date of passage of this
section in equal monthly installments, and the County is hereby
authorized to levy upon the assessable property of the County a tax
sufficient to pay the aforesaid amounts.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That Section 74 of Article 11
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Frederick County", sub-title "Circuit Court", be and the same is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

74. (Salary of Judges.) The County Commissioners of Frederick
County are authorized to pay to each of the judges of the circuit
court for the sixth judicial circuit who reside in Frederick County
[and who is not a judge of the Court of Appeals,] the sum of A SUM
NOT TO EXCEED [two thousand dollars ($2,000.00)] four thou-
sand five hundred dollars ($4,500)
annually in addition to the salary
received by each of said judges from the State of Maryland, said
payments to be made from and after the date of passage of this act
in equal monthly installments, and the said county commissioners are
