sioners and the County Board of Education on the awarding of any
contracts for public works or buildings, and public school buildings
and construction in Cecil County. He shall advise the County Board
of Education on the selection of architects for public school construc-
tion. He shall supervise all public construction, repairing or altering
in Cecil County. He shall supervise all contracts for maintenance of
public buildings in excess of one thousand dollars ($1,000.00) per
contract and such other duties as may be designated by the County
Commissioners.
The County Commissioners shall provide the Engi-
neer with such office space and facilities as may be necessary to carry
out effectively his duties herein. The Engineer shall make an annual
report to the County Commissioners on the awarding of any and all
contracts, the construction, repairing or altering of public buildings
and a detailed cost analysis thereof.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

CHAPTER 363
(House Bill 611)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 239 of
Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title
"Revenue and Taxes" sub-title "State Tax Commission", relating
to the salary of the assistant supervisor of assessments of Bal-
timore County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 239 of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Revenue and Taxes", sub-title "State Tax Com-
mission", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

239. The executive officer of Baltimore County may upon recom-
mendation of the supervisor of assessments designate one of the
county assessors as assistant supervisor of assessments and [the
county council of] Baltimore County shall be authorized and directed
to levy and pay said assistant supervisor of assessments an annual
salary [of not less than $6,000.00], ranging from $7,000.00 to
$8,500.00,
provided that the portion of said salary to be paid by the
State shall be limited to the amount prescribed in the schedules of
assessors' salaries as set forth in Section 237 of this Article. A per-
son holding the position of assistant supervisor of assessments shall
cover the salary range between the minimum and maximum figures
in five years, receiving one-fifth of the differential at the end of each
of the five years, provided, however, that service prior to June 1,
1959, be taken into consideration for such purpose.
