Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

CHAPTER 288
(Senate Bill 329)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 284 (a)
and (b) (7) of the Code of Public Local Laws of Allegany County
(1955 Edition being Article 1 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Allegany County", sub-title "Juvenile Courts",
said Section 284(b) (7) thereof, having been amended by Chapter
440 of the Acts of 1957, providing for the method AND AMOUNT
of compensation of the Magistrate of Juvenile Causes and the
Clerk of said Court, IN ALLEGANY COUNTY and doing away
with the contribution of the Mayor and City Council of Cumber-
land to such compensation.

Whereas, There has been in Allegany County for many years a
court known as the Magistrate for Juvenile Causes which court has
assumed an important function for the entire county, and

Whereas, One-third of the salary of the Magistrate and Clerk
have been paid by the Mayor and City Council of Cumberland, Mary-
land although the court has a county wide impact and is as much the
financial responsibility of the County Commissioners as is the Circuit
Court of Allegany County; now, therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 284(a) and (b) (7) of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Allegany County (1955 Edition being Article 1 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Allegany County", sub-title
"Juvenile Court", said Section 284 (b) (7) thereof, having been
amended by Chapter 440 of the Acts of 1957, be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows :

284.

(a) In addition to the Justices of the Peace hereinbefore mentioned,
there shall be appointed by the Governor, by and with the consent
of the Senate, and if the Senate shall not be in session, by the Gov-
ernor, for Allegany County at large an additional Justice of the Peace
to be known as the Magistrate for Juvenile Causes, who shall receive a
salary of NOT LESS THAN Forty-five Hundred Dollars ($4,500.00)
per year, payable monthly [two-thirds] by the County Commissioners
for Allegany County, [and the other one-third by the Mayor and City
Council of Cumberland, Maryland.]

284, (b) (7) Such Magistrate for Juvenile Causes is empowered,
subject to the provisions of Sections 63A to 63-I of the Allegany
