title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties", relating to
increase in annual salary for deputy sheriffs of Worcester County,
elimination of expense account for deputy sheriffs, and provision
for automobile and other equipment for use of sheriff's office of
Worcester County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37(w) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, and
to read as follows:
(w) Worcester County.—(1) The Sheriff of Worcester County
shall receive an annual salary of $2,400. He shall appoint not less
than two deputies who shall each receive an annual salary of
[$2,100] $3,900, and such additional deputies at such compensation
as may be approved by the county commissioners of said county. He
shall be allowed $2,100 per year for expenses. [The County Com-
missioners of Worcester County shall grant an expense allowance of
$1,800 per year, payable monthly, for each of the two deputy sheriffs
required by this sub-section.]
(2) The County Commissioners of Worcester County are hereby
authorized to provide the following for the use of the sheriff's office
for law enforcement at an annual cost not to exceed $10,000.
(i) Not more than three automobiles, plus necessary operating
expenses, including, but not limited to, gasoline, oil, insurance and
repairs;
(ii) Radio equipment;
(iii) Office supplies and equipment.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

exemption in determining eligibility for aid.
