CHAPTER 23
(Senate Bill 59)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 8 of
Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title
"Juries", sub-title "Qualification and Selection of Jurors", remov-
ing from the laws concerning jury service for women an optional
provision applying to Worcester County and clarifying the provi-
sions of said section.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 8 of Article 51 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Juries", sub-title "Qualification and Selection
of Jurors", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

8. Women as jurors.

Hereafter no person shall be disqualified for service as a juror of
this State by reason of sex, but the provisions of law relating to the
qualifications of jurors and exemption from jury duty shall in all
cases apply to women as well as men, and the lists from which jurors
are drawn shall include the names of men and women. The provi-
sions of this section shall not apply to Garrett and Howard counties.
In Calvert, St. Mary's, [Worcester] and [in] Charles counties jury
duty for women shall be optional; and any woman whose name is
drawn for jury duty shall be excused therefrom upon her request,
provided her said request is filed in writing with the clerk of the
circuit court within ten days of the date she is officially notified of
her selection.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

(Senate Bill 67)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 209 of
Article 23 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Wicomico County", sub-title "Revenue and Taxes",
amending the laws applying to tax sales in Wicomico County to
take account of the State-wide law for the sale of real property
for delinquent taxes.

Whereas, In Section 209 of the Local Laws for Wicomico County
there are provisions referring to the sale of real estate for the pay-
ment of delinquent taxes; and
