Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 699 and 700 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Washington County (1957 Edition, being Article 22 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Washington County", sub-
title "Treasurer", be and the same are hereby repealed.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 698 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Washington County (1957
Edition, being Article 22 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Washington County", sub-title "Treasurer",
deleting from the section compensation for the treasurer of Wash-
ington County; and generally relating to the salary of the treas-
urer of Washington County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 698 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Washington
County (1957 Edition, being Article 22 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "Washington County", sub-title "Treas-
urer", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
698.
(a) On the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, in the
year 1942, and on the same day every fourth year thereafter, there
shall be elected by the qualified voters of Washington County a County
Treasurer, who shall hold office for four years from the first day of
January next ensuing his election and until his successor in office is
duly elected and qualified, and who shall be removed from office by
the Governor of the State for incompetency, wilful neglect of duty
or misdemeanor in office, on conviction in a court of law, but the
Treasurer elected in November, 1942, shall take office on April 1st,
1943, and serve until December 31st, 1946; and in case of a vacancy
in said office by reason of a removal from office as herein provided,
or by reason of death, resignation, removal from the county, dis-
qualification or failure to properly qualify, or in any other manner,
the Governor of the State is hereby authorized and empowered to fill
such vacancy as soon thereafter as practicable by appointment of
some person having the qualifications herein provided, who shall hold
office for the remainder of said term, and who shall be subject to
