Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

CHAPTER 204
(Senate Bill 270)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, sub-section (o)
(1) of Section 37 of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition, as amended), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensa-
tion and Duties" providing for allowances for expenses for the
Sheriff of Montgomery County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That sub-section (o) (1) of Section 37 of Article 87 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition, as amended), title "Sheriffs" sub-
title "Compensation and Duties", be and the same is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

37.

(o) Montgomery County.—(1) [Until December 31, 1958, the]
The Sheriff of Montgomery County shall receive an annual salary
of [$4,800] $7,500 $7,500 per year, and such allowances for expenses,
commencing on January 1,1959, as the County Council of said county
shall provide from its annual budget [; and the said sheriff from and
after January 1, 1959, shall receive an annual salary of $7,500 per
year]. The County Council of Montgomery County shall provide an
automobile for the use of the said sheriff and his deputies FOR THE
GENERAL PUBLIC WORK OF THE OFFICE; THE SAID AUTO-
MOBILE TO BE OPERATED AND MAINTAINED BY THE SAID
SHERIFF AND HIS DEPUTIES at the expense of said Montgom-
ery County.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the immediate
preservation of the public health and safety, and being passed upon
a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of all the members
elected to each of the two houses of the General Assembly, the same
shall take effect from the date of its passage.

AN ACT to repeal Section 207 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Washington County (1957 Edition, being Article 22 of the Code
