1474                             Joint Resolutions

No. 35
(House Joint Resolution 35)

House Joint Resolution requesting the State Roads Commission of
Maryland to designate U. S. Route 50, from Ocean City, Maryland,
to the Maryland borders at the District of Columbia as the "Ocean
Gateway".

Whereas, Maryland has had a long and historic connection with
the Atlantic Ocean; and

Whereas, The Maryland seashore and beaches are among the most
beautiful and famous in the United States; and

Whereas, It would be of inestimable value to further publicize this
scenic area; and

Whereas, U. S. Route 50 is an important highway connecting the
eastern and western borders of the State; and

Whereas, This fact should be called to the public's attention
throughout this State and to all visitors to the State; now, therefore,
be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the State
Roads Commission be requested to name and designate U. S. Route
50 from Ocean City, Maryland, to the Maryland borders at the Dis-
trict of Columbia, as the "Ocean Gateway".

Approved April 28, 1959.

(House Joint Resolution 36)

House Joint Resolution requesting the Congress of the United States
to repeal Section 511 of Public Law No. 1020 concerning the grant-
ing of local tax exemptions by Federal law.

Whereas, It has come to the attention of the Ways and Means
Committee of the House of Delegates of the Maryland General Assem-
bly that under an amendment to the Federal Housing Law known as
Section 511 of Public Law 1020 passed by the Congress of the United
States in June, 1956, the Federal Government adopted an unprece-
dented step in granting to private corporations, known as Wherry
Housing Projects, tax credits upon local tax bills in those counties
in which Wherry Housing facilities are located; and

Explanation: Italics indicate new matter added to existing law.

CAPITALS indicate amendments to bill.
