June 1, 1959.

Approved March 3, 1959.

CHAPTER 129
(Senate Bill 243)

AN ACT to repeal Section 3 of Article 40 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1957 Edition), title "General Assembly", sub-title
"Mileage, Pay and Stationery"; to repeal Sections 156, 157, 158
and 161 of Article 41 of said Code, title "Governor—Executive
and Administrative Departments", sub-title "State Librarian"; to
repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 9 of Article 32A
of said Code, title "Department of Law", sub-title "In General";
to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 155, 160, 164,
167 and 170 of Article 41 of said Code, title "Governor—Execu-
tive and Administrative Departments", sub-title "State Librar-
ian", and to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 2 of
Article 70 of said Code, title "Official Oaths", generally amending
the laws of this state with respect to the position of State Librar-
ian which has been abolished by Constitutional Amendment in
order to substitute the terms "State Library" or "Director" and
relating generally to the State Library in this state and to its
personnel, powers, and duties.

Whereas, the Constitutional Amendment adopted by the voters in
1958, the position of State Librarian was abolished; and

Whereas, there remain numerous references in the State Code to
the previous office of State Librarian which should be changed to be
references either to the State Library or to the Director thereof; and

Whereas, the laws relating to the State Library should be gener-
ally revised in order to take account of this constitutional change and
of the present personnel, powers and duties of the State Library;
now therefore

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 3 of Article 40 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "General Assembly", sub-title "Mileage, Pay
and Stationery", and Sections 156, 157, 158 and 161 of Article 41
