or organized under the law of the United States or any state or
territory or possession of the United States, organized and operated
exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational
purposes, including the encouragement of art and the prevention of
cruelty to children or animals, a substantial part or all of the activi-
ties and work of which are carried on in the State of Maryland or
in the District of Columbia, and no part of the net earnings of which
inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual. For
the purposes of this section, the Montgomery County General Hos-
pital, Incorporated, of Sandy Spring, Maryland, shall be construed to
be a Corporation of this State, organized and operated exclusively
for charitable and educational purposes, no part of the net earnings
of which inures to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 234 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel County (1947
Edition, being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land), as amended by Chapter 737 of the Acts of 1953, title
"Anne Arundel County", sub-title "County Commissioners", re-
lating to the duties and expense allowances of the Board of County
Commissioners of Anne Arundel County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 234 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel
County (1947 Edition, being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), as amended by Chapter 737 of the Acts of 1953,
title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "County Commissioners",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:
234. (a) At the general election to be held on the first Tuesday
after the first Monday in the month of November in the year nine-
teen hundred and forty-two (1942) and every four years thereafter,
there shall be elected eight County Commissioners for Anne Arundel
County, who shall be eligible for re-election; said Commissioners
shall meet at their office in the Court House at Annapolis for the
transaction of the duties of their office at 9 A. M. on Tuesday and
8 P. M. on Thursday in each week, and on such other days as they
may deem necessary.
(b) A person to be eligible to the office of County Commissioner
in Anne Arundel County shall have actually resided in the county
