for Garrett County and outlining the scope and purpose of his
position; GIVING TO THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AU-
THORITY TO ENGAGE A COMPANY OR AGENCY TO
LOCATE INDUSTRIAL SITES; and providing for the appoint-
ment and duties of a Committee on Economic Development and
relating generally to economic development in Garrett County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 69A be and it is hereby added to the Code of Public
Local Laws of Garrett County (1957 Edition, being Article 12 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Garrett County",
sub-title "County Commissioners", to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 69 thereof, and to read as follows:

69A. The County Commissioners of Garrett County are hereby
authorized to employ an Industrial Engineer whose annual salary
and expenses shall not exceed $25,000. The Industrial Engineer shall
be a person with wide and varied experience in the field of industry
and allied economic endeavors. It shall be the duty of the Industrial
Engineer to publicize the merits of Garrett County for all types of
industry and to aid industry in locating in Garrett County. It shall
also be the duty of the Industrial Engineer to assist those industries
presently located in Garrett County, and to administer an overall
program of economic development for Garrett County. THE COUN-
TY COMMISSIONERS IN THEIR DISCRETION MAY ENGAGE
THE SERVICES OF A COMPANY OR AGENCY TO LOCATE
SITES FOR INDUSTRIAL EXPANSION AND FOR INDUS-
TRIES SEEKING LOCATIONS. The County Commissioners shall
also appoint a Committee on Economic Development to be com-
posed of five members who shall represent the geographical areas
of Garrett County. The members of the Committee shall serve
without compensation and at the pleasure of the County Commis-
sioners. It shall be the duty of the Committee on Economic Develop-
ment to assist the Industrial Engineer in an advisory capacity and
to assist in the development of an overall program of economic
development for Garrett County.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.
