which provides for the imposition by the State of an excise tax on
motor vehicles and for a payment by the State in lieu of personal
property taxes to the political sub-divisions in which the owner of
the motor vehicle resides; now, therefore
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 156A of Article 15 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Kent County", sub-title "County
Treasurer", said section having been enacted by Chapter 131 of the
Acts of 1935 and amended by Chapter 103 of the Acts of the Special
Session of 1936, be and it is hereby repealed.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959,

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 6(k),
108(12), and to add new Sections 25A and 100A, to follow imme-
diately after Sections 25 and 100, of Article 52 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Justices of the Peace",
sub-titles "Civil Jurisdiction", "Criminal Jurisdiction" and "Trial
Magistrates System", respectively, providing for the designation
of the trial magistrates of Harford County as a People's Court
for both civil and criminal cases, fixing compensation of the mag-
istrates of said People's Court, and relating generally to the
powers, jurisdiction and organization of said Court, qualifications
of its magistrates, and to the trial magistrates of Harford County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 6(k), 108(12) be and they are hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, and that new Sections 25A and 100A
be and they are hereby added, to Article 52 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland, (1957 Edition), title "Justices of the Peace", sub-titles
"Civil Jurisdiction", "Criminal Jurisdiction" and "Trial Magistrates
System", to read as follows:

(k) Harford County—Trial Magistrates of Harford County des-
ignated as the People's Court of Harford County shall have civil
jurisdiction in all cases hereinbefore mentioned in this section, insti-
tuted after [June 1, 1957] January 1, 1960, and involving amounts
not exceeding [five hundred dollars ($500.00)] One Thousand Dol-
lars ($1,000.00).
