Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

(House Bill 656)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 329 of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel County (1947
Edition), being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land, title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Fire Companies",
relating to the salaries of enginemen, and relating to the elimina-
tion of the word "consecutive" from the computation of the years
of service of retiring enginemen.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 329 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel
County (1947 Edition), being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, title "Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Fire
Companies", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments to read as follows:

329. (a) The County Commissioners of Anne Arundel County
shall appoint and dismiss, upon the recommendation of the said
Volunteer Fire Companies, two enginemen for each of said com-
panies, and in addition thereto, the necessary relief enginemen to
substitute for the regular enginemen when the latter are off on vaca-
tion or sick, as hereinafter provided. Any person recommended by
said fire companies for appointment as a regular engineman after
January 1, 1954, shall be required to satisfactorily pass an exami-
nation conducted by the Board of Fire Commissioners to determine
his qualifications, provided that those enginemen employed prior to
January 1, 1954, shall be allowed to continue in such employment
without the necessity of passing such examinations. The County
Commissioners are hereby directed to levy a special tax in each elec-
tion district sufficient to pay the salaries of the engineman and relief
engineman of the several Volunteer Fire Companies and to pay the
salary of each engineman and relief engineman. The salary for each

the Fire District Tax", and a corresponding square or box to the
right of and opposite the words "Against the Fire District Tax",
so that the voters of said County, shall be able to designate his or her

decision for or against said Act. If a majority of the votes cast in
said election shall be "For the Fire District Tax", then this Act shall
become effective, but if a majority of the votes cast shall be "Against
the Fire District Tax", then this Act shall be of no
effect and shall

be null and void.
