SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 148 of
Article 66 1/2 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Motor Vehicles", sub-title "Motor Vehicle Financial Respon-
sibility", relating to the penalty imposed for driving under a sus-
pended or revoked operator or chauffeur's license.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 148 of Article 66 1/2 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Motor Vehicles", sub-title "Motor Vehicle
Financial Responsibility", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
148.
Any person whose operator's or chauffeur's license or registration
card or other privilege to operate a motor vehicle has been sus-
pended or revoked and restoration thereof or issuance of a new
license or registration is contingent upon the furnishing of proof of
financial responsibility and who during such suspension or revoca-
tion or in the absence of full authorization from the Department
drives any motor vehicle upon any highway or knowingly permits
any motor vehicle owned by such person to be operated by another
upon any highway except as permitted hereunder shall be punished
by [imprisonment for not more than six (6) months or by a fine of
not more than five hundred ($500. 00) dollars] a fine of not less
than one hundred ($100. 00) dollars nor more than one thousand
($1, 000. 00) dollars or by imprisonment for not less than SO days nor
more than six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1960.
