BY THE GOVERNOR. APPOINTMENTS SHALL BE MADE ON
THE BASIS OF RECOGNIZED KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELD
OF RADIATION; AND THE BOARD SHALL BE SO CONSTI-
TUTED AS TO BE FAIRLY REPRESENTATIVE OF BUSI-
NESSES AND PROFESSIONS INTERESTED IN THE SUBJECT
OF RADIATION. THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD SHALL
BE APPOINTED BY THE GOVERNOR FROM TIME TO TIME.

(B) THE MEMBERS OF THE ADVISORY BOARD SHALL
BE APPOINTED FOR TERMS OF FOUR (4) YEARS EACH,
EXCEPT THAT OF THE MEMBERS FIRST APPOINTED
THREE SHALL BE APPOINTED TO SERVE FOR ONE YEAR,
TWO SHALL BE APPOINTED TO SERVE FOR TWO YEARS,
THREE SHALL BE APPOINTED TO SERVE FOR THREE
YEARS, AND TWO SHALL BE APPOINTED TO SERVE FOR
FOUR YEARS. THEREAFTER, VACANCIES ON THE BOARD
SHALL BE FILLED BY APPOINTMENT BY THE GOVERNOR
AS THEY OCCUR. A MEMBER MAY BE APPOINTED TO SUC-
CESSIVE TERMS. THE INITIAL APPOINTMENTS TO THE
BOARD DATE FROM JUNE 1, 1960.

(C) MEMBERS OF THE ADVISORY BOARD SHALL RE-
CEIVE NO COMPENSATION FOR THEIR SERVICES, BUT
THEY MAY BE REIMBURSED FOR NECESSARY AND PROP-
ER EXPENSES INCURRED IN CONNECTION WITH THEIR
MEMBERSHIP AND DUTIES ON THE ADVISORY BOARD.

(D) SECRETARIAL AND OTHER STAFF ASSISTANCE RE-
QUIRED BY THE ADVISORY BOARD SHALL BE FURNISHED
BY AND AT THE EXPENSE OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT
OF HEALTH.

(E) IT IS THE DUTY OF THE ADVISORY BOARD, FROM
TIME TO TIME, TO REVIEW THE POLICIES AND THE PRO-
GRAM OF THE STATE BOARD OF HEALTH WITH RESPECT
TO RADIATION UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SUB-
TITLE. THE ADVISORY BOARD SHALL CONSULT WITH AND
RENDER ITS ADVICE TO THE STATE BOARD OF HEALTH
ON PROBLEMS, PROCEDURES AND MATTERS RELATING
TO RADIATION. "

686 687. Penalty. —Any person failing, refusing or neglecting to
comply with the provisions of this subtitle or with any rule or reg-
ulation made by the Maryland State Board of Health under the
powers conferred by this subtitle shall be guilty of a misdemeanor,
and upon conviction shall be fined not more than one hundred dollars
($100) for each day that a violation continues provided that a writ-
ten notice of any violation shall be served on some person in charge
of the place where such violation exists prior to any prosecution for
violation of any provision of this subtitle or any rules or regulations
promulgated thereunder.

687 688. Short Title. —This sub-title shall be known and may be
cited as the "Radiation Protection Act".

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1960.
