The above items making an aggregate rate for State taxes of
thirteen and seventy-five hundredths cents (13. 75^) for the year
Nineteen Hundred and Sixty One (1961) on each One Hundred Dol-
lars ($100. 00) of assessable property.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1960.

CHAPTER 88
(Senate Bill 8)

AN ACT to add new Sections 675 to €8? 688, inclusive, to Article 43
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1959 Sup-
plement), title "Health", to follow immediately after Section 674
relating to the control, prevention, and prohibition of radiation BY
THE STATE BOARD OF HEALTH; CREATING AN ADVI-
SORY BOARD TO CONSULT WITH AND ADVISE THE STATE
BOARD OF HEALTH ON SUCH MATTERS; and relating gen-
erally to radiation in this State.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Sections 675 to 687 688, inclusive, be and they are hereby
added to Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition
and 1959 Supplement), title "Health", to follow immediately after
Section 674 thereof and to be under the new sub-title "Radiation Con-
trol", to read as follows:

Radiation Control

675. Public Policy. —Whereas ionizing radiations and their
sources can be instrumental in the improvement of health, welfare
and productivity of the public if properly utilized, and may be de-
structive of life or health if carelessly or excessively employed, or
may impair the industrial and agricultural potentials of the State if
improperly utilized, it is hereby declared to be the public policy of
this State to encourage the constructive uses of radiation and to
control radiation.

676. Definitions. —The following words as used in this sub-title
shall have the following meaning: "Board" means Maryland State
