of Maryland, title "Montgomery County", sub-title "Part 2. Gen-
eral Local Laws", sub-heading "Chapter 8. Courts", sub-paragraph
"Article I. In General", said new Section to follow immediately
after Section 8-11.1 thereof, authorizing any member of the Court
of Appeals, resident in Montgomery County, to appoint a Secre-
tary, and providing for his or her qualifications and compensation.
AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND RELATING GENER-
ALLY TO THE COMPENSATION OF SAID SECRETARY.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,

That a new Section 8.-11.2 be, and is hereby, added to the Mont-
gomery County Code, (1955 Edition), being Article 16 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Montgomery County",
sub-title "Part 2. General Local Laws", sub-heading "Chapter 8.
Courts", sub-paragraph "Article I. In General", said new Section
to follow immediately after Section 8-11.1 thereof.

8-11.2. Any Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland, resident
in Montgomery County, is hereby authorized to appoint a competent
secretary who shall have had some previous experience in secre-
tarial work, involving duties that demonstrate the ability to take
rapid dictation, typing and to exercise independent judgment. Said
secretary shall hold his or her position at the pleasure of the Judge
by whom he or she is appointed and shall receive compensation there-
fore
THEREFOR in the following manner:

The Judge who appoints his or her secretary shall fix said secre-
tary's salary in the discretion of said Judge between Step A in
Grade 12 and Step E in Grade 15 in the pay schedule for employees
of Montgomery County in force at the time said salary is fixed. The
said salary shall be fixed annually and may be changed, within said
limits, from year to year by said Judge without regard to length of
service. Such part of said salary not otherwise paid shall be paid by
the County Council of Montgomery County
as are the salaries of
other County employees and for said purpose the Council shall
budget annually the sums required to pay such salaries.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.
