such county, be closed on Saturdays; he shall lodge every original
paper and record made up by him in some repository of the court-
house of the county or city, or in such other place of safety as the
said court may appoint; and the county commissioners of the county
and mayor and city council of Baltimore shall provide and keep in
repair the said repository at the charge of the county or city. During
his term of office any register of wills absent in the military service
of the United States government during time of war shall be con-
sidered on leave of absence without pay while in such military
service and for ninety days thereafter. For the period of such
absence the duly appointed and qualified deputy register of wills shall,
after giving bond as prescribed in § 285 of this sub-title, perform all
the duties of the office of register of wills and receive the salary
provided by law for that office. PROVIDED, HOWEVER, THAT IN
SOMERSET COUNTY, THE OFFICE OF THE REGISTER OF
WILLS SHALL NOT BE CLOSED ON SATURDAYS UNTIL
AFTER JANUARY 1, 1959.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

(House Bill 338)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-section
395D (a) of Article 20 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Somerset County", sub-title
"Sheriff", said section having been added by Chapter 409 of the
Acts of 1941, providing for an increase in the allowance to the
Sheriff of Somerset County for keeping and boarding of prisoners
therein.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section 395D (a) of Article 20 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition) title "Somerset County", sub-
title "Sheriff", said section having been added by Chapter 409 of
the Acts of 1941, be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

395D. (a) The Sheriff of Somerset County shall be allowed, and
the County Commissioners of said County shall be required to pay,
the sum of [sixty cents ($.60)] eighty cents ($.80) per day for
boarding and keeping each prisoner committed to his custody, and
it shall be the duty of the Sheriff to keep a book at the County Jail
in which he shall keep a correct and full statement or schedule of
all prisoners committed to his custody showing by what authority,
the offense charged, the time when received and the time of dis-
