404A. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation or
the agent of either, whether a licensed dealer or not, to sell, barter,
DISPLAY or offer to sell or barter, any knife having a blade which
opens automatically by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or
other device in the handle thereof, commonly called "switchblade"
knives, or any switchblade penknife operating in a similar manner.
Any person or any agent, violating this section, shall, on conviction
thereof, be fined not less than Fifty nor more than Two
FIVE
Hundred Dollars AND/OR IMPRISONED FOR NOT MORE
THAN 12 MONTHS.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall not be con-
strued to extend or apply to any offenses committed prior to the
effective date hereof.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 535
(House Bill 171)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 8 (35)
(a) of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edi-
tion and 1955 Supplement), title "Revenue and Taxes", sub-title
"What Shall be Taxed and Where", including in the tax exemption
for veterans those who have acquired specially adapted housing
under the requirements of the Veterans' Administration.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 8 (35) (a) of Article 81 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1951 Edition and 1955 Supplement), title "Revenue and
Taxes", sub-title "What Shall be Taxed and Where", be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

(35) Dwelling houses of certain disabled veterans and blind per-
sons.

(a) Grant of Exemptions. The dwelling house and the lot or
curtilage whereon the same is erected, of any citizen and resident of
this State now, or hereafter honorably discharged or released under
honorable circumstances from active service, in time of war, in any
branch of the armed forces, who has been or shall be declared by the
United States Veterans Administration or its successors to have a
service-connected disability from total blindness, or from paraplegia
or permanent paralysis of both legs and lower parts of the body re-
sulting from traumatic injury to the spinal cord or brain, or from
