Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect

CHAPTER 529
(House Bill 149)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, sub-section (c) of
Section 92 of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951
Edition), title "Elections", sub-title "Elections", providing for a
mandatory inspection of voting machines in Harford County by

sheriff or deputy at the polling places prior to their use in each

election; and provided further for option inspections by candidates
in Harford County.
THE CHAIRMEN OF THE DEMOCRATIC
AND REPUBLICAN STATE CENTRAL COMMITTEES OR
THEIR DESIGNEES AND A WRITTEN CERTIFICATION
THEREOF AND PROVIDING FURTHER FOR
AN OPTIONAL
INSPECTION FOR ANY DULY CERTIFIED CANDIDATE
IN
HARFORD COUNTY.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That sub-section (c) of Section 92 of Article 33 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Elections", sub-title "Elec-
tions", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments,
to read as follows:

92.

(c) In all elections in Harford County, the use of voting machines
in every polling place shall be mandatory. The County Commis-
sioners shall provide the necessary funds and the Board of Election
Supervisors shall appoint a custodian of voting machines and a
deputy custodian, whose duty it shall be to prepare the machines for
use. The custodian and deputy custodian shall be chosen respectively
from each of the two leading political parties. Their compensation
shall be fixed by the County Commissioners. This sub-section is not
intended to limit in any way the powers conferred by sub-section (a).

All said voting machines in Harford County shall be inspected

by the sheriff of said county or his authorized deputy after the loca-
tion of said voting machines in the respective polling places in which

said machines are to be used in each and every election held in Harford
County, and said inspection shall be prior to the opening of the polls

to the public on the election day aforesaid. ALL SAID VOTING
MACHINES IN HARFORD COUNTY SHALL BE INSPECTED,
