798 Laws of Maryland [Ch. 484
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition and 1956 Supplement), title "Nat-
ural Resources", sub-title "Oysters and Clams", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
653. (k) Patent tens. TONGS. It shall be unlawful to use or
employ any patent tongs to take or catch oysters in any of the follow-
ing waters: Wicomico, Queen Anne's, Talbot, Anne Arundel, Dor-
chester and Kent counties, except on Swann Point Bar and Light-
house Lump, and except that on Hickory Thicket Bar the Department
of Tidewater Fisheries may, in its discretion, open or close this bar
for patent tonging; or in the Patuxent River above and north of a
straight line joining Sotterly Wharf and St. Leonards Beacon; or
within one and one-half miles of Sandy Point, Hackett's Point,
Thomas' Point, Holland's Point Bar and Three Sisters Bar; or in the
tributaries of the Potomac River in St. Mary's County.
SEC. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT NOT-
WITHSTANDING ANYTHING TO THE CONTRARY HEREIN-
ABOVE IN THIS ACT, DURING THE YEAR COMMENCING ON
JUNE 1, 1957, AND ENDING ON MAY 31, 1958 1959, IT SHALL
BE LAWFUL IN WICOMICO COUNTY, IN THE TAKING OR
CATCHING OF OYSTERS, TO USE OR EMPLOY PATENT
TONGS WITHOUT A MOTOR, WHICH ARE OPERATED SOLE
LY AND EXCLUSIVELY BY HAND. , PROVIDED THEY SHALL
NOT OPERATE IN LESS THAN TWENTY FEET OF WATER.
Sec. 2. 3. And be it further enacted, That SUBJECT TO THE
PROVISIONS OF SECTION 2 HEREINABOVE, this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 484
(Senate Bill 481)
AN ACT to authorize the Department of Correction to acquire by
purchase or condemnation certain real properties lying in Balti-
more City adjacent to the Maryland Penitentiary, which properties
being needed for the expansion of the facilities of the Maryland
Penitentiary and being more particularly described herein.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Department of Correction is authorized and empowered
to acquire by purchase or condemnation certain real properties
ying in Baltimore City adjacent to the Maryland Penitentiary,
which properties are needed for the expansion of the facilities of the
Maryland Penitentiary. Said properties are more particularly de-
scribed as being the land in Baltimore City bounded by Greenmount
Avenue, Madison Street, Forrest Street and Eager Street.
