CHAPTER 482
(Senate Bill 470)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 295 (a)
of the Charter and Public Local Laws of Baltimore City (1949
Edition, being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land) , as amended by Chapter 270 of the Acts of 1955, title "Balti-
more City", sub-title "Criers, Bailiffs, Watchmen and Stenogra-
phers", relating to the salaries of Bailiffs of certain courts in
Baltimore City and of the Jury Commissioner and the Deputy
Jury Commissioner thereof.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 295 (a) of the Charter and Public Local Laws of Balti-
more City (1949 Edition, being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), as amended by Chapter 270 of the Acts of 1955,
title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Criers, Bailiffs, Watchmen and
Stenographers", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, all to read as follows:

295 (a) The Treasurer of Baltimore City shall pay to the Bail-
iffs respectively of the Superior Court of Baltimore City, of the
Court of Common Pleas of Baltimore City, of the Baltimore City
Court, of the Circuit Court of Baltimore City, of the Circuit Court
No. 2 of Baltimore City, and the Criminal Court of Baltimore City
the sum of not less than [Four Thousand Dollars ($4,000.00)] Four
Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($4,500.00)
nor more than [Four
Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($4,750.00)] Five Thou-
sand Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($5,250.00)
per annum, and

Explanation: Italics indicate new matter added to existing law.

[Brackets] indicate matter stricken from existing law.
CAPITALS indicate amendments to bill.
Strike out indicates matter stricken out of bill.

Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($750.00), ONE THOUSAND
DOLLARS ($1,000.00), but he must submit the vouchers for the
same to the County Commissioners for their approval before the
said bills are paid. If the amount or estimated amount of said pur-
chase is in excess of [Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00)] Seven Hun-
dred and Fifty Dollars ($750.00),
ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS

                             


($1,000.00), he must first secure the approval of the said County
Commissioners, who may in their discretion, direct that the equip-
ment or materials desired shall be sought by competitive bidding in
such manner and in accordance with such specifications as they shall
direct, and upon the receipt of such bids the County Commissioners
may accept the bid which in their judgment is best under the circum-
stances, giving proper weight to the nature of the supplies or equip-
ment offered by suppliers and the cost thereof.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.
