the Code of (Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Anne Arundel
County", sub-title "Police Department", said sub-sections having
been amended by Chapter 631 of the Acts of 1949, revising the pro-
visions concerning the number of members of the Anne Arundel
County Police Force and of their compensation and rank.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,.
That Sub-sections (a), (b) and , (c) AND (F) of Section 418 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Anne Arundel County (1947 Edition),
being Article 2 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title
"Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Police Department", said sub-
sections having been amended by Chapter 631 of the Acts of 1949, be
and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

418.

[(a) The Anne Arundel County Police Force shall consist of, a
Chief of Police, one Lieutenant, five Sergeants, two desk Sergeants
and forty officers.

(b)   Effective, January 1, 1950, the Anne Arundel County Police
Force shall consist of, a Chief of Police, one Captain of Police, four
Lieutenants, nine Sergeants, and a minimum of forty officers, and as
many additional officers as recommended by the Chief of Police,
subject, however, to approval by the Board of County Commissioners
of Anne Arundel County.

(c)  All salaries paid to the members of the Anne Arundel County
Police Force, shall be paid semi-monthly. All of said salaries shall
be fixed and determined in accordance with the provisions of Section
260 of this Article (1947 Chapter 790).]

(a)  The Anne Arundel County Police Force shall consist of one
Chief of Police, three Captains, seven Lieutenants, thirteen Ser-
geants, ten Corporals, ten privates first class and a minimum of
seventy police patrolmen;
FIFTY PRIVATES; provided that the
increased numbers provided for herein shall not become effective
until January 1, 1958, unless sooner authorized by the County Com-
missioners. Those members with the rank of Corporal and below
shall be known as "police patrolmen", and those with a rank above
that of corporal shall be known as "police officers."

(b)  Additional police partolmen PATROLMEN and police officers
may be provided for from time to time by the Chief of Police, with
the approval of the Board of County Commissioners of Anne Arundel
County; but the aggregate number of officers shall not exceed at any
time a number which is equal to one-third (33⅓%) of the aggregate
number of patrolmen.

(c)  The compensation of the. members of the Police Force shall
be paid semi-monthly. It shall be determined by the Board of County
Commissioners, as provided in Section 260 of this Article, except
that the base annual compensation of each of the following ranks
shall always exceed that of a Private
THE ANNUAL BASE PAY
OF A POLICE PATROLMAN UNDER THE GRADE OF PRIVATE
FIRST CLASS by not less than the respective figures here noted:
Private First Class, $120; Corporal, $180; Sergeant, $450; Lieuten-
ant, $700; and Captain, $1000, and provided that nothing in this
