benefits paid in cases where benefits are obtained through a false
statement or failure to disclose a material fact.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 16 (e) of Article 95A of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1951 Edition), title "Unemployment Insurance Law", sub-title
"Penalties", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
16. (e) Any person who the Board finds has made a false state-
ment or representation knowing it to be false or knowingly fails to
disclose a material fact to obtain or increase any benefit or other
payment under this Act shall [may] be required by the Board to
repay to it for the fund a sum equal to the amount of all benefits
received by him as a result of such false statement or representation
or failure to disclose a material fact [for the benefit year with re-
spect to which such false statement or representation or failure to
disclose a material fact occurs] and [may] shall be disqualified from
the receipt of benefits [for benefit] for the period of one year from
the date on which the determination is made that an improper claim
was filed involving such false statement or representation or failure
to disclose a material fact [all or part of the remainder of such bene-
fit year and the year next succeeding] and thereafter while any sum
payable to the Board for the fund under this sub-section is still due
and unpaid].
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

amending the definition of "unemployed" "UNEMPLOYMENT"
under the unemployment insurance laws.
