Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Garrett County", sub-title
"County Commissioners", Section 84 having been last amended by
Chapter 396 of the Acts of 1943, Section 84A having been added by
Chapter 1031 of the Acts of 1945 and amended by Chapter 663 of the
Acts of 1951, and Section 85 having been last amended by Chapter
450 of the Acts of 1945, be and they are hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
84. The County Commissioners of Garrett County shall receive for
their services as such Commissioners, an annual salary of [Nine
Hundred ($900.00) Dollars] Two Thousand Two Hundred Dollars
($2,200.00) each, payable in monthly installments. [The said County
Commissioners or their agents also shall be reimbursed for any neces-
sary traveling and living expenses, incurred while traveling for the
transaction of the proper business of the county, provided that a total
of not more than Six Hundred Dollars ($600) may be so expended
in any one year.]
Any member of the Board of County Commissioners violating any
of the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and,
upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a forfeiture of office.
84A. The County Commissioners of Garrett County are authorized
and empowered to control and regulate the public roads and bridges
in said County, subject to the provisions of Article 89B of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition); they shall sit as a Road
Board once in each month, and oftener if deemed by them necessary
to the public interest, for the consideration and determination of
matters relating to county roads and bridges; and at such meetings
each County Commissioner shall inform the Board of conditions
affecting roads and bridges in said county, so far as the same have
come to his knowledge. It shall be the duty of the County Commis-
sioners to make careful inspection of the roads and road work in
Garrett County, according to rules to be adopted by the Board. For
the duties imposed by this section, the County Commissioners shall
each receive a salary of Three Hundred Dollars ($300.00) per year,
in addition to such salary as is now provided for them by law. [Each
County Commissioner also shall receive the sum of $500.00 per year
for expenses incurred by reason of his duties on said Road Board.]
85. The County Commissioners shall appoint a Clerk who shall
hold his office for two years from the date of his appointment and
until the qualification of his successor. He shall be subject to re-
moval from said office for inefficiency or for any willful neglect of
duty or misbehavior in office, at any time, by said County Commis-
sioners who shall have power to appoint some competent person for
the unexpired term of said Clerk so removed, and said County Com-
missioners shall be the sole judge as to the inefficiency or willful
neglect of duty or misbehavior of said Clerk. Said Clerk, before
entering upon the duties of his office, shall give bond to the State
of Maryland in the penalty of One Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00),
to be approved by the County Commissioners, conditioned for the
faithful performance of the duties of his office, which bond shall be
recorded in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Garrett
County, and shall take and subscribe, before one of the County Com-
missioners, an oath that he will honestly and faithfully, to the best
of his skill and judgment, execute the duties of said office. The said
