the sum of Twenty-one Dollars ($21.00) for every day's attendance
upon the sessions of said court] be Nine Thousand Dollars ($9,000.00)
per annum. Every judge of the orphans' court of Baltimore City
shall be paid, after the termination of active service, if he is then at
least 60 years of age or when he shall attain 60 years of age, a pension
or salary calculated at the rate of Four Hundred and Fifty Dollars
($450.00) per annum for each year, or any part thereof, of active
service, but the maximum pension or salary for such service shall not
exceed Forty-five Hundred Dollars ($4,500.00) per annum. The said
pension or salary shall be paid by the city of Baltimore in the same
manner as the salaries of the judges of the orphans' court of said
city are paid.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the salary fixed by this Act
for the judges of the Orphans' Court for Baltimore City shall com-
mence as of the effective date of the amendment to Section 40 of
Article 4 of the Constitution of Maryland, proposed by Chapters 99
and 124 of the Acts of 1955 CHAPTER 124 OF THE ACTS OF
1956 and adopted by the qualified voters of the State at the general
election held in November, 1956.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 595 of the
Charter and Public Local Laws of Baltimore City (1949 Edition),
title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Police Commissioner", heading
"Special Fund", requiring the Mayor and City Council of Balti-
more, upon the request of the Police Commissioner of Baltimore
City, to appropriate annually the sums necessary to meet obliga-
tions of the Special Fund for Widows to widows and children of
policemen who are members thereof when said Special Fund for
Widows is not sufficient for the payments authorized and required
by law.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 595 of the Charter and Public Local Laws of Baltimore
City (1949 Edition), title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Police Com-
missioner", heading "Special Fund", be and the same is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
595. The Mayor and City Council of Baltimore shall, upon the
request of the Police Commissioner of the City of Baltimore, ap-
propriate annually a sum of money for the relief of disabled, and
