annual salary of $4,000. The State's attorney of Cecil County shall
receive an appropriation of $500, to be used for special work and
the employment of extra help, said funds to be spent only with the
approval of the judge of the circuit court of Cecil County. In Har-
ford County, the State's attorney, with the approval of the judge
for the circuit court of Harford County, may appoint an assistant
State's attorney who shall serve at the pleasure of the State's at-
torney at an annual compensation of [$1,200] $2,000.00, and who
shall have all the legal powers to represent the State before grand
juries and in the trial of criminal proceedings as does the State's
attorney.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 144
(Senate Bill 202)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 172 of
Article 2B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Alcoholic Beverages", sub-title "Consumers", providing that
it is a misdemeanor for any minor to purchase, drink or have upon
his person any alcoholic beverages in any public place or on any
public highway in Harford County, providing that any misrepre-
sentation of age by or for the minor to obtain beer or light wine
from a licensee shall be a misdemeanor and further providing
penalties therefor.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 172 of Article 2B of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Alcoholic Beverages", sub-title "Consumers",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

172, (a) (Harford County). In Harford County, it shall be
unlawful for any person, under twenty-one (21) years of age, to mis-
represent his or her age for the purpose of obtaining beer or light
wine from a licensee, or for any person to misrepresent the age of
a minor for a purpose of obtaining beer or light wine for said minor
from a licensee and, upon conviction by a Court of competent juris-
diction, any person so doing shall be fined not less than Ten Dollars
($10.00) nor more than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) in the dis-
cretion of the Court.

(b) In Harford County it shall be unlawful for any minor to
attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages or to drink, or have in his
or her possession, any alcoholic beverages in any public place or on
any public highway. The word "minor" shall apply to every person
