CHAPTER 140

(Senate Bill 148)

AN ACT to repeal Section 5 (b) of Article 38 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Fines and Forfeitures", and
enact in lieu thereof new Section 5(b) relating to the support and
maintenance of the Court Library by fixing the amount to be paid
from fines levied collectively by the trial magistrates of Harford
County at One Thousand Dollars.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 5(b) of Article 38 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Fines and Forfeitures", be repealed and a new
Section 5(b) be enacted in lieu thereof, and to read as follows:

5 (b) [In Harford County, if in any year the said payment to the
Court Library of one-half the fines imposed and recognizances for-
feited is less than Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($750.00), the
County Commissioners thereof shall pay to the Clerk of the Court,
for the use of said Library, whatever amount may be necessary to
bring to Seven Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($750.00) in the aggre-
gate the total amount to be paid to said Library during that year
under the workings of this section. Any extra sum so paid by the
County Commissioners of Harford County for the use of said Library
shall be taken from the funds received by them representing fines
levied and collected by Trial Magistrates in said County.]

In Harford County, in addition to the sums provided in the afore-
going subsection (a) the County Commissioners shall appropriate
and pay to the Clerk of the Circuit Court the sum of One Thousand
Dollars ($1,000.00) for the support and maintenance of the Court
Library, and said sum shall be taken from the funds received from
fines and costs levied and collected by the trial magistrates in said
county. This sum shall be expended under the direction of the Judge
of the Circuit Court for Harford County.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

AN ACT to legalize a new edition of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Harford County, being Article 13 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, published under the direction of the Board of
County Commissioners of Harford County and edited by Carl N.
Everstine, and making provisions for the publication, sale and
distribution thereof.
