RESULTS OF REFERENDUM VOTES
CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS

Proclamation Declaring the Result of the Election
of November 6, 1956, for Constitutional Amendments
Whereas, the General Assembly of Maryland at its January Ses-
sion of 1955, enacted four Acts to Wit: Chapter 557, relating to the
Charter Form of Government; Chapter 616, providing for the intro-
duction of Bills; Chapter 626, providing that recess appointments
shall be submitted on the first day of the next regular session; Chap-
ter 725, providing for submission of the Budget; and
Whereas, the General Assembly of Maryland at its February Ses-
sion of 1956, enacted three Acts to Wit: Chapter 99, removing from
the State Constitution certain obsolete, outmoded or incorrect in-
formation; Chapter 100, providing for absentee voting by certain
physically disabled persons; Chapter 124, providing that Judges of
the several Orphans' Courts may be paid such salary as may be regu-
lated by law; and
Whereas, the said above recited Acts and each of them, provide
for the submission of the same to the legal and qualified voters of the
State for their adoption or rejection, at the election to be held on
November 6, 1956; and
Whereas, at the election held on the day and date above set forth,
the said Acts and each of them were so submitted to the legal and
qualified voters of the State and from the certified copies of the re-
turns thereof, duly filed with me as directed by the Constitution of
the State, it appears that:
For the adoption of Chapter 557, aforesaid, 303,535 votes were
cast, and against the adoption thereof, 75,038 votes were cast;
and
For the adoption of Chapter 616, aforesaid, 286,701 votes were
cast, and against the adoption thereof 73,143 votes were cast;
and
For the adoption of Chapter 626, aforesaid, 282,447 votes were
cast, and against the adoption thereof 68,868 votes were cast;
