CHAPTER 134
(House Bill 380)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 38 (q) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1956 Supplement),
title "Sheriffs," sub-title "Compensation and Duties," relating to
the form of the bond furnished by deputy sheriffs in Queen Anne's
County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,,
That Section 38 (q) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1956 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," sub-title "Compensation
and Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

38 (q) Queen Anne's County.—The Sheriff of Queen Anne's County
shall receive an annual salary of three thousand dollars ($3,000). He
shall appoint a chief deputy, who shall receive an annual salary of
twenty-seven hundred dollars ($2,700). The sheriff may appoint
such assistant deputy sheriffs as the county commissioners of said
county may approve, who shall be paid such compensation as the
said commissioners shall prescribe. The said commissioners may ap-
point an assistant deputy sheriff, who shall receive such compensa-
tion as the said commissioners shall prescribe, and be designated
and assigned to serve the trial magistrates in and for Queen Anne's
County, in lieu of a constable at large, and to execute his process,
orders and directions, and when not so engaged, to perform such
other duties as the sheriff or the chief deputy may require. The
sheriff and deputy sheriffs shall receive such sums as the county
commissioners may prescribe and allow for the use of their respec-
tive automobiles and for traveling expenses incurred in the per-
formance of their duties. The salaries and expenses herein pre-
