(House Joint Resolution 23)
House Joint Resolution requesting the Governor LEGISLATIVE
COUNCIL of Maryland to appoint a special commission to study
all phases of the life and supply of rockfish in the tidal waters of
Maryland.
Whereas, The rockfish caught in Maryland waters are widely
recognized as one of the most important of the great seafood re-
sources of the State of Maryland; and
Whereas, At every session of the General Assembly highly con-
troversial bills concerning rockfish come to the attention of the Legis-
lature and are frequently the source of prolonged and heated dis-
cussion; and
Whereas, One difficulty faced by the Legislature in its considera-
tion of these bills is uncertainty concerning the supply of rockfish
and the possible effect upon their continued abundance of some of
the laws either enacted by the Legislature or proposed to it; and
Whereas, It would be most helpful to the members of the General
Assembly, in their future consideration of this vital natural resource,
if they were supplied with the facts necessary for judging the future
potentialities of the rockfish industry; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Governor
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL of Maryland be requested to appoint a
special commission of not fewer than eleven persons LEGISLATIVE
