Theodore R. McKeldin, Governor 1625
Whereas, By Senate Joint Resolution No. 13, adopted earlier in
the 1957 Session by both Houses of the General Assembly, the State
Roads Commission was directed to undertake a complete and thorough
revision and resurvey of toll charges on the several toll facilities
under its control; and
Whereas, The State Roads Commission has replied to Joint Reso-
lution No. 13 with a long memorandum explaining in detail the back-
ground of the toll facilities and the proper procedure to be followed
in making any study of a reduction in tolls; and
Whereas, It appears from this memorandum that before any re-
vision can be made in tolls, the State Roads Commission must request
the firm of Coverdale and Colpitts to make recommendations and
such requests also must be filed with the trustee representing the
bond holders; and
Whereas, The members of the General Assembly are desirous of
obtaining the required traffic survey on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge
with the view of reducing the tolls for this facility; and
Whereas, Another possibility for keeping constant the aggregate
revenues of all the toll facilities would be an increase in the toll
schedules which have been discussed for the Patapsco River Tunnel
perhaps by setting these tolls between thirty-five cents and fifty
cents; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the State
Roads Commission be requested promptly to obtain a traffic survey
and recommendations from the firm of Coverdale and Colpitts and do
such other things as may be necessary under the trust agreement for
the several toll facilities to bring about a downward revision of the
toll charges on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge; and be it further
Resolved, That the State Roads Commission be directed promptly
to report the results of this survey together with its recommendations
to the members of the General Assembly and the Legislative Council.
Approved April 10, 1957.
