vision or application, and to this end the provisions of this Act are
declared to be severable.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That all Acts or parts of
Acts, whether public general or public local laws, whether enacted
prior to this session of the General Assembly or enacted at this ses-
sion of the General Assembly, inconsistent with the provisions of
this Act are hereby repealed to the extent of such inconsistency.
Sec. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 838
(Senate Bill 581)
AN ACT to add new Section 3B to Article 73B of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1956 Supplement), title "Pensions", to follow
immediately after Section 3A thereof, relating to continuing mem-
bership in the State Employees Retirement System by certain
former elected or appointed officials.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 3B be and it is hereby added to Article 73B of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1956 Supplement), title "Pensions",
to follow immediately after Section 3A thereof, and to read as
follows:
3B. Any former member of the Retirement System who was
formerly a member by virtue of being an elected or appointed official
shall have the right at his option to continue membership in the
system, provided such right shall be contingent upon such person
making all the payments which would have been made by him and
also by the State had he continued to be a member of the system by
virtue of holding such elective or appointed office.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.
