Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 801
(House Bill 764)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-section (b)
of Section 32 of Article 64A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Merit System", relating to the basis of pay
for State employees for unused vacation leave.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sub-section (b) of Section 32 of Article 64A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1951 Edition), title "Merit System", be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

32. (b) Whenever any classified employee shall be dismissed from
the classified service for any cause involving moral turpitude, such
employee shall forfeit all unused vacation time and compensation for
all unused vacation leave. Whenever the services of any classified
employee shall be terminated within six (6) months from the date
of his original appointment to the classified service, such employee
shall not be entitled to any unused vacation leave or compensation
for unused vacation leave. Subject to the exceptions hereinbefore
set forth, every classified employee, upon the termination of his serv-
ice as a classified employee, shall be entitled to receive a sum equiv-
alent to [one-thirtieth (1/30) of his last monthly compensation]

the daily rate of pay for the last regular working day ONE FOUR-

TEENTH OF HIS ESTABLISHED BI-WEEKLY AMOUNT OF
COMPENSATION AT THE TIME HIS EMPLOYMENT TERMI-
NATES, multiplied by the number of days of his unused vacation
leave.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby declared
to be an emergency law and necessary for the immediate preserva-
tion of the public health and safety, and being passed upon a yea
and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all the members elected
to each of the two houses of the General Assembly of Maryland, the
same shall take effect from the date of its passage.
