AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 591A of
the Charter and Public Local Laws of Baltimore City (1949 Edi-
tion), being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land, title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Police Commissioner", sub-
heading "Special Fund", said section was last amended by Chapter
280 of the Acts of 1955, and to add new Section 591B to said sub-
title and sub-heading of the Charter and Public Local Laws of
Baltimore City, to follow immediately after Section 591A thereof,
providing specifically for a pension for members of the police force
and other members of the Police Department who have been re-
tired by reason of a permanent disability incurred in the discharge
of their duty and eliminating said members and employees from
the provisions of Section 591A.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 591A of the Charter and Public Local Laws of Balti-
more City (1949 Edition), being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland, title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Police Commis-
sioner", sub-heading "Special Fund", said section was last amended
by Chapter 280 of the Acts of 1955 be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments; and new Section 591B be and it is
hereby added to said sub-title and sub-heading of the Charter and
Public Local Laws of Baltimore City, to follow immediately after
Section 591A thereof, and all to read as follows:
591A. On and after January 1, 1956, in addition to the payments
made to members of the police force and other employees of the Police
Department who have been retired or who shall hereafter be retired
for reasons other than permanent disability incurred in the discharge
of their duties under the provisions of Section 591, there shall be paid
monthly the following amounts:
(1) To every officer of police or other employee who has served not
less than twenty (20) years and not more than twenty-five (25)
years, an amount equal to five per cent. (5%) of the monthly base pay
or salary of those members of the police force or other employees
of the Police Department in active service occupying a grade, rank
or classification occupied by the retired member or employee at the
time of his retirement.
(2) To every office of police or other employee who has served not
less than twenty-five (25) years and not more than thirty (30) years,
an amount equal to ten per cent. (10%) of the monthly base pay or
salary of those members of the police force or other employees of
the Police Department in active service occupying a grade, rank or
classification occupied by the retired member or employee at the time
of his retirement.
(3) To every office of police or other employee who has served
over thirty (30) years, an amount equal to fifteen per cent. (15%)
