County Commissioners in whatever proportion they see fit, to the
Allegany County League for Crippled Children, the Community
Chest of the City of Cumberland, the American Red Cross, the
Allegany County Cancer Society of the Maryland Division of the
American Cancer Society, the Allegany County Branch of Maryland
Chapter, Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation, not less than $600,
the Allegany County Rheumatic Fever and Heart Association, Inc.,
[and] not less than $500 to the Allegany-Garrett Tuberculosis As-
sociation, and not less than $500 to Friends Aware of Handicapped
Children, Inc.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

Approved March 1, 1957.

CHAPTER 108
(Senate Bill 286)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 43D of
Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1956 Supplement),
title "Courts", sub-title "Circuit Courts for the Counties—Court
Stenographers", adding Talbot County to the counties authorizing
stenographers for Grand Juries and providing for the use of testi-
mony taken and transcribed.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 43D of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1956 Supplement), title "Courts", sub-title "Circuit Courts for the
Counties—Court Stenographers", be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

43D. Stenographers for grand juries in certain counties author-
ized; use of testimony taken and transcribed.

Upon the organization of each grand jury the judge or judges of
the circuit court for Calvert, Charles [and] , St. Mary's and Talbot
counties may and they are hereby authorized and empowered to
appoint a stenographer at a compensation to be determined from
time to time by the judge or judges of the circuit court for said
counties making said appointment to be paid by the county commis-
sioners for said counties, which said stenographer shall have author-
ity to take and transcribe the testimony given before any grand jury
in said counties, and all of said testimony so taken and transcribed
shall be for the exclusive use and benefit of the grand jury and the
State's attorney of said counties unless otherwise ordered by the
court.
