53. House to House Canvass. In the year 1958, and continuing
in every second year 1960 AND CONTINUING EVERY FOUR
YEARS thereafter, the judges of election in each precinct in Balti-
more City shall make a house-to-house canvass of the voters
thereof, on the third Monday in January in each of said years.
They shall check such voters against a list of them to be furnished
the said judges by the Board of Election Supervisors of Baltimore
City. They may make such canvass as a group, or they may by
agreement among themselves divide the precinct and each make
a canvass for a portion of the precinct. They shall report to the
Board of Supervisors as a group, noting beside each name on the
list of voters whether each voter respectively is "Present", "Moved",
or "Deceased". Said list shall forthwith be sent to the Board of
Supervisors, and the Board shall then proceed to correct the said
registration lists in the manner provided in Section 32 51 (C) of
this Article. Each judge of election shall be paid at the rate of one
day's remuneration for participating in the said house-to-house can-
vass of the voters.
NOMINATIONS
54. Methods of Nominations, (a) Nominations for offices which
are filled by elections under the provisions of this Article may be
made by primary election, primary meeting, or petition.
(b) Nominees of political parties which polled 10% or more of the
entire vote cast in the State in the last preceding general election shall
be nominated by primary election as hereinafter provided.
(c) Nominees of political parties which polled more than 1% but
less than 10% may be nominated by primary meeting as hereinafter
provided.
(d) Nominees other than of political parties as provided for in (b)
or (c) above may be nominated by petition as hereinafter provided.
(e) No certificate of nomination shall contain the name of more
than one nominee for each office to be filled.
(f) No person shall be a candidate for more than one office in any
one election.
CERTIFICATE OF CANDIDACY
55. Where Filed, (a) State-Wide Offices. Certificates of candidacy
shall be filed with the Secretary of State for the nomination of mem-
bers of Congress or of candidates for offices to be filled by voters of
the entire State or (with the exception of Judges) of any division
of a greater extent than one county.
(b) Judges. Each candidate for nomination for Judge of the Cir-
cuit Court for a county and each candidate for nomination for
Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland from the First, Second
and Third Appellate Judicial Circuits, shall file his certificate with
the Secretary of State. Each candidate for nomination for Judge
of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City and each candidate for
nomination for Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland from the
Fourth Appellate Judicial Circuit shall file his certificate with the
Board of Supervisors of Elections of Baltimore City.
